A fanatical gardener, Bob Bandolier had been trying to create blue roses for years when he finally saw them growing in the garden of the Commandant’s house within a concentration camp. Then a soldier with the liberating troops, Bandolier shot and killed the guard responsible for the blue roses. He remembers this event with a sense of placid triumph.
